My guide to kickflips:
General tips:
remember that for flip tricks it is very important to relax your upper body. This is VERY important! also, when you are first learning a trick remember to do them very low, stay above your board, and keep your shoulders even to your deck.
Step 1: preperation
before you start learning kickflips you need to have decent ollies.
Be able to ollie at least 2 decks.
Step 2: positioning
Ok, so now you are ready to try a kickflip. start by keeping a good posture with you back. do not hunch over your board, keep your shoulders even with your hips and your board.
Now for the footing. Put your back foot on the tail however is comfortable. For the front foot, position it about 1-2 inches behind the bolts, halfway off the side of your deck. Here is an image of the foot positioning.
Note: this is from a regular footed point of view.
Step 3: the pop and flick
so now your ready to pop it. remember, when you are first learning them, barely pop it at all. this is so you can stay above your deck and so your feet will stay above the deck.
For the flick, slide your front foot up and off the board at a 45 degree angle. flick your ankle out right under the nose.
Step 4: the catch
so the board is now flipping underneath you. at first its going to be hard to catch it in mid-air because you shouldn't be popping it high enough yet. just land on the board after it finishes flipping. your feet should naturally come back over the board.
Congratulations, you just did a kickflip!
But you're not done yet!
Step 5: improving your kickflips
after you can consistently kickflip low along the ground, you're going to want to practice popping them higher, and flicking farther out.
Slowly work your way up to high kickflips. eventually you should be able to do them as high as you can ollie!
